Remarks Nocturnal species which occurs inshore (Ref. 75154). Found in sheltered bays and lagoon patch reefs, typically forming dense aggregations at the entrance of caves (Ref. 1602) and among branching corals (Ref. 2334). Exhibits the black gut phenomenon. In nocturnal predators, it appears to serve to conceal bioluminiscent prey in the stomach cavity (Ref. 46685).
