 Family:  Hypoptychidae (Sand eel)
 Max. size:  12.8 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  benthopelagic
 Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: northern Japan and the eastern Korean Peninsula.
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Found in vegetated shallow waters. Spawning occurs in early summer. The eggs are laid in the peribranchial cavity of an ascidian.
