Diagnosis: posterior tip of upper jaw usually not extending beyond vertical through mideye; fewer than 50 teeth in single row in upper jaw on each side, separated by median tubercle; upper lip smooth; usually 3 pores in preopercular canal; flanks with chess-board arrangement of small, light and dark patches (Ref. 57403). |
Amphidromous freshwater species (Ref. 92840). The maximum size is 193 mm SL and 242 mm TL observed, but perhaps it can reach 264 mm TL (Ref. 81676). |
