 Family:  Chaetodontidae (Butterflyfishes)
 Max. size:  17 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  reef-associated; depth range 40 - 250 m, oceanodromous
 Distribution:  Western Pacific: subtropical waters of Japan, ranging south into the China Seas, Taiwan and the Philippines.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 20-23; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 16-19. Description: Body white silver, vertical bars two broad brown reaches ventral contour, eye bar also brown but narrow; dorsal fin rear spot black. Snout length 2.7-3.6 in HL. Body depth 1.3-1.6 in SL (Ref. 90102).
 Biology:  Inhabit deep rocky reefs, generally between 120-190 m in the tropics (Ref. 9710), in the East Indies usually found below 110 m (Ref. 90102). Found in shallow, muddy open substrates with outcrops of reef or debris in sub-tropical waters (Ref. 48636). Often in aggregations (Ref. 9710). Oviparous (Ref. 205). Form pairs during breeding (Ref. 205).
