 Family:  Sparidae (Porgies)
 Max. size:  37 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal; depth range 15 - 300 m
 Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: Morocco to Angola.
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Occurs in various types of bottoms on the continental shelf and slope; old fish occurring in the deeper waters. Feeds mainly on crustaceans; also on fish, sometimes on mollusks and worms.
 IUCN Red List Status: Near Threatened  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
