 Family:  Doradidae (Thorny catfishes)
 Max. size:  50 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal
 Distribution:  South America: Lake Maracaibo basin including lake itself (along southwest shore) and Apon, Santa Ana, Catatumbo, Escalante and de Los Pajaros River basins.
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Found in rivers, preferring muddy bottom of backwaters (Ref. 26543). Feeds on insects, worms, small crabs and snails (Ref. 26543).
 IUCN Red List Status: Not Evaluated  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
