 Family:  Labridae (Wrasses), subfamily: Corinae
 Max. size:  12 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  reef-associated; depth range 6 - 35 m
 Distribution:  Western Pacific: Philippines to Samoa, north to southern Japan, south to Rowley Shoals and the southern Great Barrier Reef.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 9-9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-12; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 11-12. Juveniles and sub adults have a pair of ocelli on the dorsal fin which disappears with growth (Ref. 1602, 48636).
 Biology:  Found in small groups (Ref. 90102) in seaward reefs to at least 35 m depth, usually in areas of mixed coral and reef rock with sand patches (Ref. 9710). Also in reef crests and slopes on rocky or rubble-algae substrates (Ref. 48636).
