 Family:  Characidae (Characins), subfamily: Incertae sedis
 Max. size:  5.3 cm TL (male/unsexed); max. reported age: 4 years
 Environment:  benthopelagic; pH range: 6.30000019073486; dH range: 12
 Distribution:  South America: Rivers of Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, and Amazon River basin.
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Particularly abundant in coastal creeks and floodplains where it is supported by a certain salinity level. It is vulnerable to a trematode parasite which induces a characteristic cutaneous reaction. Reproduction in captivity has been successful (Ref. 12225). Maximum length questionable (Ref. 38376).
