 Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Lampanyctinae
 Max. size:  15.3 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  bathypelagic; depth range - 1537 m, oceanodromous
 Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: Senegal to the Angola Current. Western Atlantic: 17°N to Brazil, including the Gulf of Mexico. Indian Ocean: between 7°N and 4°S, east of 70°E. Pacific Ocean: in tropical waters; reported from New Zealand (Ref. 5755). South China Sea (Ref.74511).
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-15; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 17-19. Anal organs 12-13 (Ref. 39633).
 Biology:  Mesopelagic (Ref. 58302). High-oceanic, found between 300-700 m during the day and between 40-325 m at night with maximum abundance at 100 m. Sexually mature from about 12.3-13.8 cm (near Hawaii) (Ref. 4479). Oviparous, with planktonic eggs and larvae (Ref. 31442).
