 Family:  Serranidae (Sea basses: groupers and fairy basslets), subfamily: Liopropomatinae
 Max. size:  9.1 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  reef-associated; depth range 2 - 34 m
 Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: Red Sea to the Line Islands and Samoa, north to the Ryukyu Islands, south to Reunion and New Caledonia.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 8-8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-12; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Description: Characterized by brownish grey to reddish color; eight yellowish-brown stripes; without enlarged pores anterior to posterior nostrils or in anterior interorbital space; pelvic fins 1.7-2.0 in head length (Ref. 90102).
 Biology:  Found in caves and crevices in lagoon and seaward reefs (Ref. 6180). Benthic (Ref. 75154). Secretive (Ref 90102).
