 Family:  Muraenidae (Moray eels), subfamily: Muraeninae
 Max. size:  150 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal; depth range 0 - 45 m
 Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: Mauritania to Namibia, including Cape Verde and probably the islands of the Bay of Biafra. Western Central Atlantic: Colombia (Ref. 5217).
 Diagnosis:  Very large, 1.9 m, pattern of large dark spots with dark blotch around gill opening (Ref. 26938).
 Biology:  Inhabits shallow water and feeds on crustaceans and fishes (Ref. 3254).
 IUCN Red List Status:   (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
