 Family:  Rajidae (Skates)
 Max. size:  57 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 750.0 g
 Environment:  demersal; depth range 20 - 120 m, oceanodromous
 Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: Japan, Korea and Taiwan (Ref. 8630). Appears to be confined to the continental shelf off Japan and in the China Seas south to about Xiamen (Ref. 47737).
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Bottom-dweller that feeds on invertebrates and bony fish. Oviparous. Distinct pairing with embrace. Young may tend to follow large objects, such as their mother (Ref. 205). Eggs are oblong capsules with stiff pointed horns at the corners deposited in sandy or muddy flats (Ref. 205). Egg capsules are 4.8-6.6 cm long and 2.9-3.7 cm wide (Ref. 41249, 41253, 41298). Depth range given by H. Ishihara (pers.comm. 07/07).
