 Family:  Holocentridae (Squirrelfishes, soldierfishes), subfamily: Myripristinae
 Max. size:  20 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal; depth range 38 - 488 m
 Distribution:  Western Atlantic: New York, USA and northern Gulf of Mexico to the Antilles (Ref. 26340) and Brazil.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-14; Anal spines: 4-4; Anal soft rays: 11-12. Reddish, without conspicuous markings. Preopercular spine not prominent. Opercle with 1 large spine and many smaller spines. Soft parts of dorsal fin and anal fin unscaled. Lobes of caudal, soft dorsal and anal fins pointed (Ref. 7251).
