 Family:  Scorpaenidae (Scorpionfishes or rockfishes), subfamily: Scorpaeninae
 Max. size:  15.3 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal; depth range 59 - 124 m
 Distribution:  Pacific Ocean: Hawaii and the Kii Peninsula, Japan.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 5-5. Vertical scale rows about 70-75; lachrymal bone with 2 rounded lobes over maxillary; suborbital ridge with 3 or 4 spines, not well marked and sometimes split, first spine on lateral face of lachrymal bone; compressed head and body, elevated rostrum, long snout (Ref. 10482).
 Biology:  Benthic on rocks or coral (Ref. 58302). Rare species (Ref. 559).
