 Family:  Synodontidae (Lizardfishes), subfamily: Harpadontinae
 Max. size:  45 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 500.0 g
 Environment:  reef-associated; depth range 25 - 550 m
 Distribution:  Western Atlantic: South Carolina, USA and northern Gulf of Mexico to the Guianas. Unknown from the West Indies except off western Bahamas and Cuba. Also eastern Gulf of Mexico and western Caribbean (Ref. 26938).
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-12; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 10-11. Inner rays of pelvic about equal to or shorter than outer rays (Ref. 13608).
 Biology:  Found on sand or mud bottoms.
