 Family:  Macrouridae (Grenadiers or rattails), subfamily: Macrourinae
 Max. size:  25 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  bathypelagic; depth range 732 - 1880 m
 Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: Western Indian Ocean: off Mozambique and reported from Laccadive Sea. South African records by Brauer (and subsequently followed by others) were probably based on Ventrifossa ori. Western Central Pacific: Philippines.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 2-2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 145-147
 Biology:  A benthic species found on the continental slope (Ref. 75154).
 IUCN Red List Status: Not Evaluated  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
