 Family:  Eleotridae (Sleepers), subfamily: Eleotrinae
 Max. size:  26 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal; depth range 0 - 5 m, amphidromous
 Distribution:  Africa, Asia and Oceania: East Africa to Society Islands, north of Japan, Vanuatu.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-8; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Body dark brown to black with longitudinal lines; fins spotted in young, black in large individuals (Ref. 5493).
 Biology:  Adults inhabit brackish estuaries and medium to large-sized rivers (Ref. 2847, 12975, 48637, 44894); also in submerged bank vegetation of freshwater streams (Ref. 41184). Usually found on mud bottoms (Ref. 44894).
 IUCN Red List Status:   (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
 Country info:  Known from the Zhujiang drainage in Guangdong Province and mountain streams in Hainan Province (Ref. 33469). Known from Shantou city of Hanjiang river system, Guangzhou city, Xinhui county Yinzhou lake in Guangdong Province. Others 8 specimens from Nandu jiang river system, Qionghai county of Wanquan river system, and Changhua jiang river system in Hainan(Ref.33469).
