 Family:  Scyliorhinidae (Cat sharks)
 Max. size:  48.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  bathydemersal; depth range 533 - 864 m
 Distribution:  Western Pacific: Japan, the Philippines, East and South China seas, and the Kyushu-Palau Ridge.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 0-0; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 0-0. Brownish without conspicuous markings (Ref. 244).
 Biology:  A poorly known deep-water bottom shark (Ref. 11146). Oviparous (Ref. 50449).
 IUCN Red List Status: Data deficient  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
 Country info:  Type locality, Cagayan I., Jolo Sea, USNM 93134 (holotype of Pentanchus herklotsi, 32.6 cm TL, female) (Ref. 244). Additional Philippine specimens from USNM (Ref. 47737). Also Ref. 11146, 37337, 39431, 110893.
