 Family:  Scaridae (Parrotfishes), subfamily: Scarinae
 Max. size:  31 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 700.0 g
 Environment:  reef-associated; depth range 1 - 20 m
 Distribution:  Pacific Ocean: Ryukyu Islands to Australia. Recently reported from Tonga (Ref. 53797).
 Diagnosis:  Female is dark-brown but the tail is dark red. Male has yellow cheek and yellow area on sides near tail that are bright underwater (Ref. 48636).
 Biology:  Inhabits seaward coral (Ref. 58652) and rocky reefs (Ref. 9710); inner reefs with rich coral habitat (Ref. 48636). Feeds on benthic algae (Ref. 3488). Caught mainly with traps, nets and other types of artisanal gear. Minimum depth reported from Ref. 90102.

 Threat to humans:  harmless
 Country info:  Known from Calatgan, Batangas (Ref. 107853), Puerto Princesa, Palawan and San Vicente, N. Luzon (Ref. 58652). Also Ref. 1602, 48613, 53416.
