 Family:  Clariidae (Airbreathing catfishes)
 Max. size:  50 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal
 Distribution:  Asia: Southeast Asia.
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Occurs in peats, lakes and lowland forest streams (Ref. 57235). Found in well shaded forest streams and swamps with acidic waters. A carnivorous species which feeds at night (Ref. 85309). Not seen in markets (Ref. 12693).

 Country info:  Reported from Lake Bato, Camarines Sur as C. gilli (Ref. 280). According to Herre 1924, examination of the type of C. nieuhofii will decide the validity of C. gilli Smith & Seale 1906 as a distinct species. The latter species was found common over Mindanao and in southeastern Luzon, specimens were collected from a market at Tituan, on the Rio Grande de Mindanao, from Malupali River, Mailag, Bukidnon, and in a brook near Santa Fe, Bukidnon (Ref. 2854).
