 Family:  Gobiidae (Gobies), subfamily: Gobiinae
 Max. size:  10 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  reef-associated; depth range 0 - 6 m
 Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: East Africa to the Marianas, north to southern Japan.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 6-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 9-9. Characterized by generally greyish brown color with irregular greenish-brown bars and narrow pale spaces between; large black spots on side , mid-lateral row; head with pink spots; head and body with blue dots; united pelvic fins, presence of frenum; longitudinal scale series 56-65; head without scales; greatest depth of body 4.3 in SL; rounded caudal fin, about equal to head length (Ref. 90102).
 Biology:  Occurs in shallow lagoons and coastal bays, usually in areas with runoffs (Ref. 48637).
 IUCN Red List Status:   (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
 Country info:  Type localities, Culion Harbor, SU 26387 (holotype of Ctenogobius culionensis); tide flats at Jolo, Sulu Is., CAS (SU) 25502 (holotype of Mars caeruleomaculatus) (Ref. 50838, 75154).
