 Family:  Eleotridae (Sleepers), subfamily: Eleotrinae
 Max. size:  26 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal; depth range 0 - 5 m, amphidromous
 Distribution:  Africa, Asia and Oceania: East Africa to Society Islands, north of Japan, Vanuatu.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-8; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Body dark brown to black with longitudinal lines; fins spotted in young, black in large individuals (Ref. 5493).
 Biology:  Adults inhabit brackish estuaries and medium to large-sized rivers (Ref. 2847, 12975, 48637, 44894); also in submerged bank vegetation of freshwater streams (Ref. 41184). Usually found on mud bottoms (Ref. 44894).
 IUCN Red List Status:   (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
 Country info:  Specimens were collected in 1993 from Kiga creek, Lagu Lagu creek, a small creek in Guadalupe, Leyte and from Sohoton Cave, Basey River, Samar (Ref. 7223). An ipon fish in Ilocos (Ref. 13531). Also Ref. 6802, 11344.
