 Distribution:  Restricted to northwestern Pacific ; Austral-Indonesian records are considered to represent two or three undescribed species (see Ref. 87957).
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205).
 IUCN Red List Status: Data deficient  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
 Country info:  Type locality, off Jolo Light, Jolo Is., USNM 70257 (holotype of Etmopterus brachyurus, 27.7+ cm, adult male) (Ref. 247, 288, 47737). Also in Ref. 280, 6577, 6871, 31367, 47930, 48414, 95664.
