 Family:  Tripterygiidae (Triplefin blennies), subfamily: Tripterygiinae
 Max. size:  3.2 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal; depth range 0 - 8 m
 Distribution:  Western Pacific: Japan, Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Philippines, Viet Nam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vanuatu.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 15-19; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-11; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 16-20; Vertebrae: 36-37. Description: Dorsal fin III + XII-XVI + 8-10; anal fin I, 16-20 (usually 19); pectoral rays 15-17; pelvic fin I,2. Lateral line continuous, pored scales 17-23; head, nape and narrow strip on upper back scaleless. Mandibular sensory pores 3-5 + 1 + 3-5. Male head dorsal red, ventral black with blue horizontal stripe below the eye and in between the red and black areas; body vertical bars irregular, brown, about 8 in series; pectoral fin black with spots 2-3 in the upper side. Female overall white, ventrally yellowish with white spots, body bars irregular, yellowish brown, marble on back and sides (Ref. 90102).
 Biology:  Adults are found at depths of 8 m and shallower, in surge channels and exposed rocky and coralline boulders (Ref. 90102). Eggs are hemispherical and covered with numerous sticky threads that anchor them in the algae on the nesting sites (Ref. 240). Larvae are planktonic which occur primarily in shallow, nearshore waters (Ref. 94114).

 Country info:  Known from Batanes, Babuyan Is., Batangas, Palawan, Mindoro, Iloilo, and Negros Oriental (Ref. 27223). Also known from Cuyo Islands (Ref. 90102).
