 Family:  Terapontidae (Grunters or tigerperches)
 Max. size:  22.31 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  pelagic
 Distribution:  Asia: Ryukyu Islands, the Philippines, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.
 Diagnosis:  Four dark longitudinal body stripes; an interruption of the postorbital stripe on heads at the posterior preopercular margin. Scales rows above lateral line to middorsal spines 8; on cheek 7-8. Interspace between nostrils wider than 1.5 the diameter of the posterior nostril. Upper jaw slightly longer than lower jaw; gape almost horizontal; lips fleshy; snout elongate (Ref. 44255).
 Biology:  Eggs are guarded and fanned by the male parent (Ref. 205).
 IUCN Red List Status: Not Evaluated  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
 Country info:  Reported as juveniles of M. argenteus in Leyte by Vari 1978 (Ref. 44255).
