 Family:  Syngnathidae (Pipefishes and seahorses), subfamily: Syngnathinae
 Max. size:  19 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal; depth range - 5 m, amphidromous
 Distribution:  Africa: occurs in Madagascar. Southeast Asia and Oceania: Japan south to Indonesia and east to New Caledonia and Fiji.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 53-63
 Biology:  Found in streams, rivers, and estuaries. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205). Males may be brooding at 11.25 cm SL.
 IUCN Red List Status:   (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
 Country info:  Specimens were collected from Sohoton Cave, Basey River, Samar in 1993 (Ref. 7223). Also Ref. 7050.
