Dorsal spines (total): 2-2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-9; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 12-14. Specimens dusky above, pale or pale-yellowish sides and belly; opercle and preopercle silvery; scales outlined by dark dots. Head naked; mouth large, oblique; upper thin lip slightly protractile with a median notch into which fits a small knob on tip of lower lip. Pectoral pointed, tip extending beyond origin of small ventrals; caudal slightly longer than head with the lower lobe larger. Belly with a sharp, cutting edge. Barbels shorter than head; number of anal fin rays smaller than N. everetti and N. steindachneri. 22-23 scales from nape to dorsal. |

Known from its type locality, Zamboanga; also from Basilan: Lamitan, Burakan, Busay, and Balactasan rivers; Puerto Princesa and Palawan (1909 & 1913); Concepcion, Busuanga (1922). Probably occurs in Tawi-tawi and Balabac (Ref. 2929). Reported from Palawan (Caiholo River, Ulugan Bay; creek near Pancol, Malampaya Sound; Iwahig, Malatgao, and Camino rivers, near Puerto Princesa); Busuanga (Malbato R., Port Unson and Pangauron R., Port Caltom); Isabela River, Basilan; and Zamboanga R., Mindanao (Ref. 280). Five specimens caught by hook & line in 1989 from Manguao stream (Ref. 13489); seven specimens were collected from Manguao Stream using push net, prefer surface and running water habitats (Ref. 50862). Also Ref. 94476. |
