 Family:  Pleuronectidae (Righteye flounders), subfamily: Poecilopsettinae
 Max. size:  15 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  bathydemersal; depth range 218 - 438 m
 Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: Bali Strait and northern part of New South Wales (Ref. 9792). Record of occurrence from St. Helena Island is considered to be erroneous (Ref. 51668).
 Diagnosis:  Body depth 2.6 to 3 times SL. Pectoral fin on eyed side longer than head. Caudal -fin rays 20 (rarely 19) (Ref 12933).
 Biology:  Feeds on small benthic animals.
 IUCN Red List Status: Not Evaluated  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
 Country info:  Museum: collected from China Sea, off southern Luzon at 135 fathoms (= 247 m), 'Albatross' collection, D. 5110, USNM 93087 (holotype of Nematops chui, 8.2 cm) (Ref. 311). Type locality described as near Corregidor I. (Ref. 9494). Also Ref. 280, 9792. Not marketed (Ref. 9792).
