Dorsal spines (total): 2-2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 33-36; Anal soft rays: 30-32. Description: Characterized by pale grey to brownish body color, often with darker brown back and diffuse, broad, midlateral brown stripe, may assume strongly mottled pattern; usually with dark brown oblong blotch on middle of upper back below anterior portion of second dorsal fin; first dorsal spine origin above posterior half of eye; second dorsal and anal fins elevated anteriorly; straight to convex dorsal profile of snout in male, slightly convex to concave in female and juvenile, absence of hump on both sexes; rounded to double emarginate caudal fin, upper lobe filamentous in male; depth of body at origin of anal fin 1.9-3.1 in SL, becoming elongate as growth increases; male more elongate than female (Ref. 90102). |
Found on protected areas, on open, silty sand bottoms (54980). |
