Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-7; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 7-8; Vertebrae: 26-26. Color when fresh greenish and somewhat transparent. Body with numerous minute spots; 1st dorsal with a black blotch; caudal fin base with 2 vertically black spots. Longitudinal scales 27-28; transverse scales 7; predorsal scales 6-7. Maxillary extends to the vertical of anterial half of eye, upper jaw prominent; lips thin. Snout obtuse, overhanging the upper lips. Head scaled above behind eye and opercle. Scales on head, breast and belly cycloid; on lateral side of body ctenoid. Middle spines of 1st dorsal longest; 2nd dorsal and anal higher than 1st dorsal; pectoral and ventral about as long as head (Ref. 43550). |
Adults occurs in the sea, estuaries and rivers (Ref. 4833). Feed on small fishes and invertebrates (Ref. 12693). |

Specimens were collected in 1993 from Kiga creek and Ambacan River at Baybay, Leyte and Inuntan, Basey River, Samar (Ref. 7223). Collected from Malabon, Manila; Capiz and Iloilo, Panay (Ref. 439); and Lake Taal (Ref. 439, 13446, 80679). Reported from rivers in Luzon, Mindanao, Panay, Negros, Mindoro, Busuanga, and Sulu (Ref. 280). Type locality of Vaimosa piapensis: Piapi Creek, Dumaguete, Negros Oriental (Ref. 43716).
