 Family:  Percophidae (Duckbills), subfamily: Hemerocoetinae
 Max. size:  3.36 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal; depth range - 86 m
 Distribution:  Western Pacific: Philippines.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 5-5; Dorsal soft rays (total): 20-20; Anal soft rays: 24-24. This species is distinguished by the following characters: D V,20; A 24; pectoral-fin rays 17-19; V I,5; dorsal-fin spines are closely set creating a narrow base, the first spine is greatly elongated, reaching to middle of caudal fin; dorsal lobe of caudal fin with filamentous tip; about 33 tubed lateral-line scales, the posterior margin narrowly incised or crenulated; at the anterior end of each maxilla is a short, curved spine (maxillary spine); with a short rostral barbel (Ref. 95663).
 Biology:  Collected by a beam trawl over hard, sandy, rocky bottom (Ref. 95663).
 IUCN Red List Status: Not Evaluated  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
 Country info:  Type locality, between Luzon and Mindoro islands, CAS 236400 (holotype of Pteropsaron dabfar, 3.36 cm SL) (Ref. 95663).
