 Family:  Setarchidae (Deep-sea bristly scorpionfishes)
 Max. size:  18 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  bathydemersal; depth range 180 - 704 m
 Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: Indian Ocean east to Fukushima Prefecture, Japan (Ref. 559), south to Australia (Ref. 5978). Reported from the Arafura Sea (Ref. 9819).
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-11; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 4-6. Second preopercular spine much shorter than first or third, or lacking. Pectoral rays 21-23. Interorbital width 8-12 % SL, greater than in S. guentheri (Ref. 11015).
 Biology:  Found on the continental shelf and continental slope. Benthic (Ref. 75154). The dorsal spine contains poison glands which can inflict painful wounds (Ref. 11015).
 IUCN Red List Status: Not Evaluated  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  venomous
 Country info:  Specimens collected from the 2011 Hearst Expedition (Ref. 95664). Also Ref. 11015.
