 Family:  Acropomatidae (Lanternbellies, temperate ocean-basses)
 Max. size:  8.1 cm SL (female)
 Environment:  demersal; depth range 176 - 511 m
 Distribution:  Western Pacific: Suruga Bay, Japan and the Philippines.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 7; Vertebrae: 25. Mouth large and oblique; post-ventral margin of preoperculum serrated. Anterior edges of ventral fin spine, 2nd spine of 1st dorsal fin and spine of 2nd dorsal fin distinctly serrated. Scales large and deciduous.
 Biology:  Found on the continental slope (Ref. 75154).
 IUCN Red List Status: Not Evaluated  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
 Country info:  Type locality, Batangas Bay, Luzon I., USNM 70254 (holotype of S serratospinosa, 8.1 cm SL, female with eggs in advanced stage of development) (Ref. 11356).
