 Family:  Monacanthidae (Filefishes)
 Max. size:  22 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  bathydemersal; depth range 230 - 600 m
 Distribution:  Western Pacific: Sagami Bay to the East and South China seas. Also recorded from Darwin to North West Cape, Australia (Ref. 5978) and Papua New Guinea (Ref. 6771).
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Juveniles(?) found near shore on sand bottoms (Ref. 11230). Adults in deep water (see occurrence records).
 IUCN Red List Status:   (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
 Country info:  Its flesh is hard, thin, with a bitter taste, and may cause ciguatera and death if much is eaten (Ref. 12745).
