(total): 27-35. Has 27-35 dorsal-fin rays; snout somewhat longer than the postorbital part of the head; 17-20 rings around the trunk and 28-34 around the tail; large dark spots above the lateral trunk ridge (not always distinct).
Usually associated with river stretches with slow current, among grasses, roots or shore vegetation (Ref. 27732). Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205). Males may be brooding at 13.6 cm SL.
