soft rays: 8 - 9. Distinguished from all Atlantic Canthigaster species (except C. supramacula) by the absence of longitudinal dark stripes on the side of the body or caudal peduncle. Distinguished from C. supramacula by the absence of a conspicuous dark spot on the dorsum (Ref. 43205).
Occurs in tide pools and to depths of up to 45 m (Ref. 43205). Also found in rocky areas to at least 50 m depth; adults often in pairs (Ref. 86997).
