Distinguished from all congeners in Turkey by the combination of the following characters: one pair of barbels; body silvery in life; few irregular black spots on dorsal and lateral body in adults; few isolated spots or no spots on the caudal peduncle in adults; 64-70 total scales on lateral line; 25-30 gill rakers on the first gill arch; and lower jaw slightly arched or straight in both sexes (Ref. 79818).
