Anal
spines: 0. Snout long and sharply pointed, its anterolateral margin almost completely supported by bone. Underside of the head entirely naked; the dorsal surfaces of the head with broad areas behind the anterolateral margins either naked or with small, thin scales. Light organ short and not visible externally. Overall color grayish, with a prominent thing around the eye; the mouth and gill cavities blackish; the first dorsal fin uniformly dusky.
Feeds primarily on small fish and bottom-living crustaceans.
