Saint Lucia is one of the Windward Islands in the southeastern Caribbean Sea. The nearest neighbours are Martinique to the north, Barbados to the southeast, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to the south. Of volcanic origin, Saint Lucia is crossed from north to south by a forested mountain range that culminates in Mount Gimie (950 m). The mountains contain many streams and fertile valleys.
Saint Lucia has a tropical climate, with an average annual temperature of 26°C. The annual rainfall averages about 1,524 mm on the coast to more than 2,540 mm in the mountains. The rainy season lasts from May to August.
