Goals and Objectives: The scope and objectives of the Convention are: to have a legal order for the seas and oceans which will facilitate international communication and will promote the peaceful uses of the seas and oceans; equitable and efficient utilization of their resources; the conservation of living resources; the study, protection and preservation of the marine environment; navigational rights, territorial sea limits, economic jurisdiction, legal status of resources on the sea-bed beyond limits of national jurisdiction. The International Seabed Authority is an autonomous international organization established under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the 1994 Agreement relating to the Implementation of Part XI of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
