Goals and Objectives: |
The Organization guides the parties of the Convention on Future Multilateral Cooperation in Northwest Atlantic Fisheries. The aim of the Organization is to contribute through consultation and cooperation to the optimum utilization, rational management and conservation of the fishery resources of the Northwest Atlantic area and to promote to this end scientific research and cooperation among the Contracting Parties. |

[24 Oct 1978] Convention on Future Multilateral Cooperation in the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries [Entered into force 01 Jan 1979). This Convention established the NAFO, which was founded in 1978, following extension of Canada's jurisdiction to 200 miles. |
