Freshwater; demersal. Temperate, preferred ?; 40°N - 37°N
North America: Lahontan basin in southeastern Oregon, Nevada and northeastern California, USA. Recently established naturally or through introduction into upper Sacramento River system in California.

Occurs in various habitats but most common in large lakes such as Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake in Nevada, USA. Also found in pools along lower reaches of streams.
