Shell-brooding cichlid found in low-density shell areas; greedy eater, feeding mainly on insect larvae (Ref. 46829). Typical snail inhabiter which uses the snail shells as breeding caves; males are too large to fit into the shell so they merely squirt their sperm into the shell at the opportune time (Ref. 12251).

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82805):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01514 (0.00709 - 0.03231), b=2.97 (2.80 - 3.14), in cm Total Length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic Level (Ref. 69278):  3.6   ±0.5 se; Based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 69278):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (tm<1).
Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100) .
