Marine; brackish; reef-associated; non-migratory; depth range 6 - 40 m (Ref. 7247). Tropical, preferred ?; 30°N - 25°S, 95°E - 175°E
Western Pacific: Indonesia to Fiji, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to New Caledonia. Recently recorded from Tonga (Ref. 53797).

Adults are found in passages and outer reef slopes (Ref. 7247); also in current prone and clear water reef flats to 40 m depth (Ref. 48636). They occur singly or in small groups (Ref. 37816). Feed on zooplankton and benthic algae (Ref. 7247). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).
