Vertebrae: 24. This species is distinguished by 6 spines in first dorsal fin; 3 dark stripes on the upper half of head and body, the broadest and midlateral, reaching end of caudal fin, 2 narrow stripes reaching to base of second dorsal fin, the lower stripe reaching caudal fin base; no dark stripes in second dorsal or anal fins; gill rakers and rudiments 23-26; pectoral rays 14-15; blackish stomach and intestine, peritoneum silvery with many melanophores (Ref. 58479).
