Vertebrae: 18. Disk rounded and compressed, with cranium moderately elevated and bulbous rostrum rising slightly above it and extending anterior to mouth. Ventral surface without tubercles. Very wide mouth with lower jaw projecting. Trilobed esca with masses of short filaments, except dorsal tip of dorsal lobe. Cephalic lateral line scale counts: preopercular 3; subopercular 6-7; dorsolateral branch of subopercular 3-4; supraorbital 9. Lateral line scale counts on body 9-10; tail 11-13. Fins weak; anal relatively long, reaching base of caudal (Ref. 40825).
