Africa: Cunene, Okavango (Ref. 52193), upper Zambezi (Ref. 52193, 95585) and Kafue (Ref. 95585). Also known from the southern tributaries of the Congo system (Ref. 52193), including Mweru-Luapula and Bangweulu-Chambeshi (Ref. 95585).

Dorsal spines (total): 3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-9; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 5 - 6. Anterior barbel short, about quarter eye diameter; posterior barbel also short, about half eye diameter.

Inhabits shallow calm waters amongst vegetation, along the river edge (Ref. 13337). Ripe adults were caught undertaking upstream migration on a possible spawning run in mid summer after the first rise in water level (Ref. 13337).
