Etymology: Phractura: Greek, phraktos = fence (Ref. 45335); stiassny: Named after Dr. Melanie Stiassny, Curatrix of Ichthyology at he AMNH in New York, for her contributions to African ichthyology and in appreciation for the support given to the author who described this species to carry out his study.
