Etymology: Zaireichthys: Composed form Zaire river + Greek,ichtys = fish; the habitat of this fish (Ref. 45335); dorae: Dedicated to Mrs Dora Machado, co-collector of the species (Ref. 11970).

Africa: known only from the Luachimo River (Kasai drainage, middle Congo River basin) in Angola (Ref. 11970, 51287, 78218).

Vertebrae: 37. Pectoral fin spine with 4 or 5 large serrae (Ref. 51287). Humeral process moderately long, denticulations poorly developed (Ref. 51287). Neural and hemal processes relatively slender (Ref. 51287).
Occurs over fine sand, lying buried with only its eyes protruding (Ref. 7248).
