Eastern Central Pacific: Revillagigedo Islands and Mexico to Panama.

Inhabit rocky littoral zones. Feed on algae that grows on rocks by scraping it off with its specialized teeth. Oviparous, eggs are pelagic and non-adhesive (Ref. 205). Probably caught incidentally with other mullets. May be found in Panama markets.
